meeting at Andover I was picked up by Mrs. Penny Scriven at 2:30 in the afternoon. She had gone to Chichester and came to Portsmouth on her way back home. we reached their place at around 3:30. After having tea she took me for a walk round their village. It is indeed a very beautiful place. It has a distinct Enid Blyton look about it. We went to the local church also. Mr. Richard Scriven was away on business. He returned at about 6:30 in the evening. we left for the meeting at 7:10. It was in a restaurant in the town of Andover. I think it was the white hart. there was dinner followed by the actual meeting. Mr. Richard Scriven introduced me to the members and I spoke for about 10 minutes. I also exchanged a flag with the club president. After the meeting, both Mr. and Mrs. Scriven had come to drop me back here. I reached around 10:45. |
| February 9th Foundation evening at the Domus
Beaulieu as a guest of Hythe Rotary Club On the 9th of February, I attended the Foundation Evening of the Rotary Club of Hythe with Carol and Malcolm. The invitees also included the District Foundation Chairman Nigel Brookes and Mrs. Brookes. The hall was a fine example of a medieval setting with stone walls, long narrow windows, wooden beams in the roof, and a small high stage, as can be seen in the pictures taken by Malcolm. The burning log fire added to the warmth of the atmosphere on that cold evening. Foundation Chairman Nigel Brookes spoke about the activities of the Rotary Foundation and the programmes like Polio Plus supported by it. The guest speaker for the evening was a retired army official Dennis Tomlin, who was also a member of the Queen’s bodyguard. It was a highly interesting and informative narrative, wherein he described in detail the selection procedure, the composition, the duties and the dress code of the Queen’s bodyguard. It was accompanied by some very interesting photographs and souvenirs. Everyone of the audience really enjoyed this session. It was almost 11:30 when we left the Domus to return home. |

| February 20th Lunchtime as a guest of
Cosham Rotary Club The afternoon meeting of the Rotary Club of Cosham, on the 20th of February is the last one I have attended so far. I went across on the ferry to Gosport where Malcolm was waiting to pick me up. I was late by more than fifteen minutes. The drive to Cosham was a long one due to the slow moving Friday afternoon traffic. The president of this club is Terry Swan. Malcolm did the introduction and I followed with a very small presentation. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to finish the pudding which was really nice. We took some pictures standing on the bridge in the freezing cold. The setting is really beautiful as in evident from the photographs. One thing worthy of mention is the huge well-maintained campus of the IBM UK headquarters we saw on our way, and the daffodils that had blossomed even in that weather. Malcolm dropped me back at the Gosport ferry and I came back to Portsmouth and to Harry Law hall, thinking that I could have done with another coat. |

| It's amazing to think that 6 months have already gone by since Prachi's arrival. Her time at Portsmouth University has been well spent and her grades are very good. With 3 months to go she has adapted well | ||

Celebrating nearly 100
years of Rotary service to our home town of Gosport which has for
centuries been home to the Royal Navy and still holds strong ties to the
sea, now replacing it's traditional role as an armament depot to Portsmouth
Dockyard with modern Marinas. |
